CollectionSpace Community:

Version 5.0 of CollectionSpace will be released this fall, and with it our new UI code. This is a major release for us, and one that will not follow our standard upgrade path. Over the course of the year, via blog posts, emails to the talk list, and announcements on the website, we'll lay out the issues we anticipate you'll face, and our plans for mitigating those issues. By the time we're ready to release, we hope that if you choose to upgrade, you'll be excited and prepared.

A quick rundown of the anticipated issues:

  • If you've made configuration changes to your instance (e.g. adding new fields, hiding fields), these changes will need to be re-implemented using the new UI
  • We'll be linking some fields that are currently free-text to their proper authorities, e.g. Object production place. This means a little data migration with your upgrade, and we will release the full list of schema changes, reports to help you identify values already in those fields, and migration tools in advance of v5.0
  • Currently, a number of term lists are "static" - they can't be changed via the UI. We're looking at changing some static lists to "dynamic" lists, which can be edited via the Term List Management interface

I've created a special v5.0 topichttps://wiki.collectionspace.org/questions/topics/165773319/version-5.0 in the questions section of the wiki - we'll make sure that all questions and answers are collated here as we move along.

Richard, Ray, the rest of the CSpace Technical Working Group, and our Registered Service Providers are working diligently to ensure upgrades to v5.0 go as smoothly as possible. Now is a great time to become a memberhttp://www.collectionspace.org/membership/ - your contribution supports our great work, and your participation in our working groups ensures that our community stays informed and connected.

Thanks,

Megan
