Project Description

CollectionSpace is a collaboration that brings together a variety of
cultural and academic institutions with the common goal of developing
and deploying an open-source, web-based software application for the
description, management, and dissemination of museum collections
information. This report includes an update on the project team's
activities for September and October. The next update will be released
Friday, November 6th.

Updates are emailed to the Announcements
http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/collectionspace/Mailing+Lists
list and posted to the project wiki
http://wiki.collectionspace.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=65575
and website http://www.collectionspace.org  the first Friday of every
month.

Releases 0.2 and 0.3

The CollectionSpace project team is pleased to announce the release of
CollectionSpace 0.2 http://demo.collectionspace.org , which allows
users to login to the system, create a new intake record, and auto-fill
intake and object identification numbers. Information groups within data
entry screens can be collapsed and expanded to maximize screen
efficiency (use the plus/minus signs to the left of the information
group name; e.g. object identification information). Updates to the
object, create new main page, and find/edit main page are also
incorporated into this release. The 0.2 release interface only allows
for text entry; dates, currency, and vocabularies will be functional at
a later date. Non-functioning elements of the interface appear in gray.
To access the demo, use login: guest and password: guest.

This release builds on the 0.15 release, which was the first formal
integration of all three layers of the software - services, application,
and user interface.

The CollectionSpace project team welcomes any and all questions,
comments, and critiques of the 0.2 Release. A feedback page
<http://wiki.collectionspace.org/display/collectionspace/Release+0.2+Fee
dback>  has been created on the project wiki; users can also email
talk@lists.collectionspace.org.

The team is working on Release 0.3, which will include: an expansion of
the ID service to include a choice of sequential identification numbers;
the first version of the vocabulary service, which will provide access
to controlled lists; and support for acquisition.

Community

CollectionSpace has several exciting events coming up in October and
November.

We are hosting three webinars in three weeks to introduce people to
CollectionSpace. Webinar participants will get an advanced look at
CollectionSpace, meet the design and development teams, learn about the
software's advanced architecture, functionality, and user experience,
hear about our production schedule and deployment plans, and learn how
to get involved with the project. Each webinar will conclude with a
question-and-answer session.

Webinar registration will open Tuesday, October 6th, on the
CollectionSpace http://www.collectionspace.org/content/webinars
website.

Join project Principal Investigator Carl Goodman and Project Manager
Megan Forbes at the MCN 2009 Conference in Portland, OR from November
11-14. On Thursday, November 12th, Carl will take part in the session
"Doing More with Less: A Community-Software-Based Technology Strategy
Roundtable," along with Christopher Mackie, The Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation, Alison Gilchrest, The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; Sam
Quigley, Art Institute of Chicago; Jess Mitchell, Fluid Engage; and
